What “real 608/708 captions” means
Burned-in captions are pixels and cannot be turned off. A sidecar remains separate from the program. Real CEA captions are encoded commands and characters carried with the program for downstream decoders.
MUXEVO authors native digital CEA-708 services and includes CEA-608 compatibility captions for supported Broadcast MXF output. This is materially different from placing 608 text inside a digital wrapper and calling it native 708.
Authoring, placement and readability
The automated captioning workflow starts with timed transcription of the prerecorded source. Captions are formatted into broadcast-safe rows, and optional AI-aware placement can move captions away from detected lower-third graphics.
Operators on eligible plans can review text, timing, content flags and presentation before final delivery.
Validation after encoding
Caption QC must inspect what was actually encoded, not just the source transcript. MUXEVO independently decodes CEA-608 channels and native CEA-708 services from the finished captioned essence.
Structural QC also checks caption packet presence, sequence and checksums so missing, duplicated or malformed payloads fail before delivery.
